Very happy to illustrate the covers of the “Girls on Tour” series of books by Nicola Doherty. Girls on Tour is a series of five interlinked stories about five friends, who have lots of fun in faraway places. Poppy Does Paris is the first instalment in this five-part series and is out in July 2014. The others in the series are Lily Does LA, Maggie Does Meribel, Rachel Does Rome and The Girls Take Manhattan. If you like Lindsey Kelk'sI Heart... novels, you will love this!
Visiting my friends in Ibiza has become a tradition for the last 10 years. Their kids are full of life and affection and I come back to London every year full of fun memories. There is always amazing music in the background, a new place to be seen, a new fashion to wear. I love the sound of the cicadas, mixing with the electronic music while drinking a cold beer... The intensity of the blue sky.
With every commissioned illustration, there is always a brief/ text/title/ to follow and it's the work of the illustrator to bring attention and clarity to that text. Just for fun, I like to match random sentences from novels with an existing illustration from my portfolio. I find it quite liberating that these two elements, which were not created together and do not share the same purpose, are suddenly together trying to make sense of each other. A.
I'm trying my best to do one thing at a time, so I can stay more in the present. Most of the time I find myself walking and texting, eating and reading, planing illustrations while in the bath... In cities like London, there is always something to see, somewhere to be and something to do, and there is nothing wrong with that. But right now I want to push myself to do one thing at a time. Soon I'll be skiing and when I ski, staying in the present becomes natural. I'm not a great skier, I started late, and I still have so much to learn. So in order to preserve my life once I'm at the top of the mountain, there is nothing else to do or think other than ski - and just the thought of that fills me with joy.
See you soon!
PS: Just to put in practice one thing at the time. I'm going to schedule this post.
So these pictures are last year but the illustration is brand new.
